Victory! and the Peak of the Mission

Well this week was amazing.  Adriana was supposed to get baptized this week, but that didn't happen.  But it's okay because its going to happen this Saturday!   It's actually better this way because now she has more time to talk to her dad.  Originally she had planned to not invite him to see her baptism, but we talked to her and helped her understand that it is important that her family supports her.  She's had a little more time to help him understand why this is important for her!

Also she's had more help because her brother, David, came home from his mission on Tuesday!  He is really awesome and is so excited to baptize his sister on Saturday!  I feel so privileged to be able to get to know this family!  They really are so special to me.

Friday was probably the best day of my whole mission!  We went to visit Adriana and David, and after they went to a lesson to teach with us.  David was really happy to be teaching again, and Adriana was really nervous!  But she shared her testimony and it was really powerful!  David started crying right in the middle of the lesson- he was so happy to see his sister with a testimony of this gospel!  She testified about how HAPPY the gospel makes us!  And I know it's so true!  I left that lesson feeling so ridiculously happy.  It's crazy!
Then later that day we had a lesson in the temple with the Garrido family (the boys we're teaching).  We went to their house to all go to the temple together, and we arrived with them already waiting for us, all dressed up in their white shirts and ties!  I just about died!  It was so cute.  We went to the temple and talked about the Plan of Salvation.  All 3 boys and their mom accepted to be baptized July 8th.  I love them so much!

Later that day we went to a piano concert! It was really fun and a nice change of pace. I hadn't done anything like that for a really long time. I was glad for a time to just enjoy the music!

Also another one of our investigators, Sara, who has been investigating the church for a really really long time, decided to get baptized with Adriana this Saturday!  They studied together in high school and are friends, it's going to be really great to see them get baptized together!  So we're expecting 2 baptisms this week and 4 more in just a couple weeks!
I feel like I'm at my peak in the mission!  I keep thinking that the mission can't get any better, but I have enjoyed every transfer more than the transfer before!  I keep saying, "It can't get any better than this!"  But then it just keeps getting better!  I feel so blessed to be in my area with my companion at this time.  I am so happy!

From last week's P-day - meeting up with Hermana Tenorio for lunch!

The best day of her mission so far!

I think this must be the go-to crazy picture face :)

Here's a different look...Hermanas in shorts doing service!

A Frida Kahlo themed restaurant, she said it was too expensive to actually eat there.

"The Boys" they are teaching!

After they taught the boys' mom the lesson on the Word of Wisdom, she decided to give up coffee.  She gave them her bottle to take home!  Victory!

From today's P-day, she finally baked the cake mix I sent for her birthday with her zone.  They even sang happy birthday to her!   They went to visit with a senior couple in their home.  She loved being with them in their apartment!   Makes me think of my mom and dad with the missionaries in South Africa!

Octopus for dinner

WELL. This week was waaaaay awesome! We had a cultural activity at church to celebrate the opening of a new chapel right next to the temple. That chapel burned down about 18 months ago due to an electrical fire. It was under construction for a really long time and it finally opened! So to celebrate all of the wards in the stake prepared a few numbers! The ward did a traditional dance from Jalisco (it's like one of the skirt dances haha) and also we acted out stories from the Book of Mormon again! Also all the missionaries sang and my companion played the violin! It was really fun. The boys we're teaching were part of the skits and really enjoyed it! We were really happy!!!! We got to be in it too! I used my dress from Oaxaca and a sister in Campeche gave me some sandals from Oxkutzcab! I looked like a pretty goood Nephite!!!

We also had stake conference! It's funny because in the mission, stake conference is like a big deal haha! I've changed a little bit! I was like way excited. When I was at home stake conference was whatever, but I've learned it's actually really cool! Our leaders get revelation specifically for the stake!!!! So everyone go to stake conference :)

We did splits twice this week! One thing about being a sister training leader is that we get to work with a lot of different sisters! It's cool because I get to learn from them! I'm the one who is supposed to be training them but usually they end up training me :) I got to do splits with Hermana Terry, one of my dearest friends in the mission!! She's so great. She goes home in 2 weeks!!!!!

My comp and I decided to be a little bit adventurous this week and cook octopus! It was at the store for 20 pesos so we just bought it and tried to make something! And it actually turned out pretty good! But our house smelled awful after!

Also we helped cook meat outside! Lots of people cook on their little grills outside even in the rain! You can't tell a ton in the picture but it was raining :)

Hermana Adriana is getting baptized this week! I am so excited because I love her so much!!!!!! And also her brother gets home from his mission TOMORROW! We're so happy for this family!!!!!

I love being a missionary!!!!!!

There's Only ONE Hermana Keeler

Wow this week went by so ridiculously fast. So we have 2 families that we are teaching.

First, is the family of the missionary that's coming home in just a week from tomorrow!
The dad is super Catholic, but he's been a lot more open recently. We taught about the plan of salvation using scriptures from the Bible and he started to have questions and was really interested!  Little victories!

Adrinna is getting baptized 2 days after her brother gets home- June 15th. She's still the cutest tiniest humans I know.

In the next family, the son is a convert.  He was baptized 2 years ago. We started teaching his brothers a while ago and met his cousin this week!  He's 17 and has been using drugs for 5 years. He recently quit and wants to change!  We've been teaching him and he's already been to church twice!  These boys are so cute and so eager to learn. In church, they learned about the priesthood and are really excited to recieve it after their baptisms!  Their mom is really just supporting them and going to church to help THEM and not to help HER. But we're trying to work with her to help her understand that the gospel is just as much for her as it is for her sons and nephew!

It's been raining a lot!  Rain is really great but also it's really annoying.  It's great because the sun isn't out, but it's bad because sometimes it feels hotter because the air is water and not air haha.  It's great because at night its colder.  It's bad because the shower is ice the morning after.  It's great because people are more willing to let us in.  It's bad because my feet are always wet and I might get trenchfoot.

So it's whatevs.

I had an interview with my mission president today.  He's the best!  He just told me how much he loved me and how grateful he is that I'm here in the mission!  He told me, "We have 144 missionaries here in this mission, but we only have ONE Hermana Keeler."  I felt so loved!  It's the best to talk to him.  Sometimes I get really hard on myself.  But I've learned a lot about love here in the mission, especially about how to love myself!  I'm happy to be a missionary!!!!!

Love,
Hermana Keeler
